- See: Flexor muscles of the Forearm:
- Superficial muscles arise from a common tendon attached to the lateral epicondyle of the humerus, and divide into lateral and medial groups;
- Lateral three of these muscles:
Brachioradialis
Extensor Carpi Radialis Longus / Brevis
- Medial group:
Extensor Digitorum communis
Extensor Digiti Minimi
Extensor Carpi Ulnaris
Anconeus
- Deep muscles on the back of the forearm are:
- Supinator
- Abductor Pollicis Longus
- Extensor Pollicis Longus / Brevis
- latter three muscles to thumb surface in furrow between two groups of superficial muscles;
- they insert on thumb at base of metacarpal, proximal phalanx, & distal phalanx respectively;
- Extensor Retinaculum:
- on dorsal side extensor tendons, w/ exception of brachioradialis, pass under an extensor retinaculum that holds them close to bone
& maintains their uniform mechanical relationship to the carpus
