Medial Approach to the Elbow

- Discussion:
    - allow visualization of medial epicondyle, trochlea, and ulnar nerve are
    - approach is used for a total elbow arthroplasty;
    - proximally the interval lies between the brachialis and triceps, where as distally the interval lies between the brachialis and MCL;
           - avoid vigrous retraction on epicondylar fragment, as this may damage median nerve fibers to the forearm flexors;
    - main disadvantage:
           - inadequate visualization of lateral column;
           - medial collateral ligament may be at risk w/ this approach
