Metoprolol/Lopressor



- See: Class II Agents

- Discussion:
    - for HTN, MI, angina pectoris; beta blocking agent;
    - HTN dose:
             - 100mg PO qd in single or divided doses; may increase dosage q1-2 weeks until desired response;
             - usual range is 100-450mg/day;
    - angina:
             - 100mg PO qd in 2 divided doses initially, increased prn at weekly intervals;
             - max dose: 400 mg/day;
             - acute MI: 5mg IV bolus at 2min intervals 3times (total 15mg IV), then 25-50mg PO q6hr x 48hr, then 100mg PO bid;
    - contraindications:
             - heart block greater than first degree;
             - sinus bradycardia,
             - cardiogenic shock, CHF
