- Fracture:
- displaced unstable fractures of the styloid process;
- Implant:
- 4.0 mm cancellous bone screws, 3.5 mm cortex screws or 3.5 mm cannulated screws;
- 2.7 mm condylar plate;
- lag screw fixation with 4.0 mm cancellous bone screws or 3.5 mm cortex screw, or 3.5 mm cannulated screws;
- small oblique or right angle T plate;
- first plate is temporarily fiexd to the proximal fragment with screw in the proximal oval hole;
- Fracture:
- intra articular frx w/ proximal or volar displacement:
- Implants:
- small T plate on the volar aspect;
- identification for the median nerve for decompression;
- reduction of volar fragments with small reduction forceps;
- Fracture:
- Y fracture:
- Implant:
- small T plate on the side of greater comminution;
- Y fractures are reduced by continuous traction of the thumb;
- Special Considerations:
- in conjunction with a distal radius fracture, a transverse or short oblique frx of distal narrow part of the ulna may occur;
- this is absolute indication for a plate fixation w/ either 3.5 mm or 2.7 mm DCP or LC DCP
