Triazolam/Halcion



for insomnia, sedative, hypnotic; short acting benzodiazepine:
Initially .125mg (elderly)-- 0.25mg (Adult) at hs; usual dose range:.25-.5mg PO hs prn; decrease dose in the elderly or debilitated
patients; 
Note that pyschic and or physical dependence may occur; additive CNS depression with ETOH and other depressants; hallucinations may occur in the elderly; 
Contraindicated with hypersensitivity to benzodiazepines, or concomitant ingestion of alcohol or other CNS depressant drugs;
Intermediate rate of onset; t/2==1.5-5hr; 
Note No active metabolites;
Peak plasma levels (PO) in 2hr; 
Most of drug conjugatedand excreted in urine. 
Will not affect PT or plasma Warfarin level; 
Note that concomitant use of cimetidine or erythromycin may double t/2 and plasma [ of Triazolam; Note side effects: CNS, N/V
