- Discussion:
    - adult w/ severe defficiency: 100mg IM/PO qd;
    - w/ hypoglycemia:
          - 100mg IV by slow direct Injection over 3-5 min;
          - w/ hypoglycemia thiamine is given prior to glucose replacement to protect
                 against Wernicke's encephalopathy;
          - note: prolonged IV therapy may result in Thiamine deficiency
