- Discussion:
    - broad spectrum macrolide antibiotic;
    - indicated for bronchitis due to haemophilus, moraxella, streptococcus;
    - may also be used for community acquired pneumonia due to legioella and mycoplasma as well as skin infections due to staph aureus;
    - needs to be taken with food;  
    - typical dose 500 mg PO qd for 5 days;
    - does not interact with cytochrome P 450 enzyme system;

- Cautions:
    - not approved for patients younger than age 12
