Ceftizoxime/Cefizox


- Third Generation Cephalosporin
- For uncomplicate UTI: 500mg q12hr IM/IV;
- for uncomplicated infection in other sites: 1 gm q8-12hr IM/IV;
- For severe or refactory infections in other sites: 1gm q8hr IM/IV or 2gm q8-12hr IM/IV;
- for life threatening infections: 3-4gm q8hr IV;
- decrease dose with renal failure;
- Good diffusion from blood into CSF only with inflammation;
- Dosing Regimens for Patients with Renal Insufficiency: (Dose for 70kg Adult {gm/dosing interval in hours}):CrCl: >80::1/8; CrCl:50-79::1/8;; CrCl:30-49::1/12;; CrCl:10-29::1/24;;
    - 80 % of dose will be excreted in urine (w/ nl R F(x))
- Should not be mixed with morphine or Tetracycline
 Many of the newer cephalosporins, especially cefotetan and ceftizoxime, *RF 245,246 * have some activity against bacteroides; however, they have no consistent advantage over cefoxitin
