erythromycin  Tetracycline

- Signs and Symptoms of:
       - HA
       - Malaise
       - Fever
       - Cough (bothersome) - Rales, Rhonchi, Wheezes
       - Consolidation rare; - Significant CXR features: Unilateral Broncho Pneumonia; - Isolation of M. Pneumonia from Sputum or a 4 fold or greater rise in complement fixing antibody titer is diagnostic;
        - single complement fixing antibody titer of 1:64 is also highly suggestive;                    
        - although non specific, cold agglutinins (>1:28) are usually present;
Neisseria meningitidis:
Pen G   Ceftriaxone   Cefuroxime, Cefotax
Note: Consider Pen G: 400,000 Units/kg IV q2hr;
Meningococcus is found in the Nasopharanx of about 5% of the population, and is spread by respiratory droplets and close contact;
For unknown reasons only a small number of carriers develop meningitis.
Meningococcal meningitis occurs most often in the first year of life, however, it has been shown to be etiologic agent for epidemic meningitis in humans and also causes fulminating, frequently fatal septicemia resulting in lesions of skin, bones, and adrenal glands;
- on culture look for Black colonies on chocolate agar indicating pos oxidase test
