Osteomalacia from Chronic use of Anticonvulsant Medication


- Discussion:
- rickets or osteomalacia may occur from most anticonvulsants;
- disorder is common and may be present in upto 15% of pts;
- syndrome is dangerous because of increased sensitivity of central nervous system that occurs with lowering of serum Ca concentration;
- disorder can be corrected by administration of 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D
